Wheat...Further erosion across the wheat futures complex weighed yet
again on west coast cash wheat prices this week, as bids drifted 25 to 60
cents lower, week-on-week. White wheat fared better than the red wheats,
as the nearby basis more than doubled from last week to 40 over Chicago
July futures. A return to more seasonal weather with scattered rainfall
was beneficial to Pacific Northwest wheat conditions this week.
Weekly Sales...USDA reported cancellations and rolling of 23.6 million
bushels in old crop wheat sales last week, resulting in net sales between
both marketing years of 7.2 million bushels. Current year commitments were
trimmed to 868 million bushels, which is 11% ahead of a year ago and 14%
above the five-year average. Net results of the rolling showed soft white
wheat sales up 2.7 million bushels, soft red winter up 2.8 million, hard
red winter up 1 million and red spring up 650,000 bushels. Primary buyers
were South Korea and Mexico.
