Wheat...West coast wheat markets showed it was a mostly sideways week
for white and dark northern spring wheat, while hard red winter slipped
20 cents. Exporter bids recently rolled to the July futures contracts
and in the process, trimmed basis levels for the protein wheats. After a
week of cool wet weather, Pacific Northwest temps are expected to spike
on Friday ahead of rainy front moving in for the weekend.
Weekly Sales...USDA reported combined old and new crop wheat sales of
just over 11 million bushels last week. Old crop bookings of 2.6 million
bushels put commitments at 784 million, which is 13% ahead of a year ago
but 1% below the five-year average pace. Hard red winter was top seller
with 3 million bushels, placing sales at 201 million which is 50% ahead
of a year ago but 21% below average. Sales for new crop sales came in at
8.7 million bushels and commitments stand at 75 million, which is nearly
20% below last year at this time. Thailand and Nigeria were the primary
old crop buyers last week, with new crop led by South Korea.
