Wheat...Post crop report strength across the futures complex at mid-
week gave west coast wheat prices improved footing on Thursday, which
was most notable for hard red winter wheat bids. White wheat saw nearby
basis weaken more than 20 cents week-on-week, but carries into January
widened as exporter buying interest is on deferred export sales.
Weekly Sales...USDA revealed another week of lethargic export demand
for U.S. wheat, as total sales of 9.4 million bushels came in shy of the
four-week average. Year-to-date commitments of 9.4 million bushels set
32% below a year ago and 14% below the five-year average pace. Hard red
winter booked 3.3 million bushels and with 66 million in commitments is
running 59% below a year ago and 33% below average. White wheat secured
2.7 million bushels in new sales and with 76 million in commitments sets
4% ahead of a year ago and 18% above average. Hard red spring booked 2.1
million bushels and with 82 million in commitments is running 20% below
a year ago and 14% below average.
Top Buyers...Mexico bought 3.7 million bushels of U.S. wheat over the
past week, followed by South Korea with 3.2 million, Indonesia with 2.4
million of white wheat and Japan with 1.7 million.
